K Swanson Art

As an artist and writer, I have been influenced by a love of mythology, folklore, and the endless ingenuity of the human spirit. I believe our stories are written on our bodies and in our body language, and I seek to capture those energies in my work. Every line, every gesture, is another installment of our individual perseverance. Focused around “living things” –real or imagined—I use various media to offer a snapshot of human perception, relying on each viewer to bring a unique experience to the piece. My projects are focused on finding what sets each subject apart, but also how they can bring us together. In art, my precision details blend surreal expression with the stark portraiture of everyday life, just as my writings hover between dreams and reality.

Art is the manifestation of an idea, and however it impresses upon you, if you interact with that idea, a message has been shared. Whether grief and anxiety, beauty or whimsy, mystery or wonder, pain or defiance, I believe art is a reflection of the complexity of human motivation. I seek to share little pieces of that story.

Axolotl

With her flaming hair and subtle body alterations, this friend of mine inspired a witchy interpretation. Axolotl is named for the creature hiding in her hair, an endangered salamander from Mexico. Known for their regenerative abilities, they don’t often scar, but regrow lost limbs and organs. With these characteristics—tenacity, persistence, and fortitude— and charming appearance, he was a perfect familiar for this enchantress.

Dogs are unconditional family members. They remind us of the good in the world and make the bad days better. I never get tired of building a precious face.

Life is our stories and art is a particular way of seeing those stories. You must forget your prejudices and what you believe something looks like in order to see it as it is.
